Safe Drinking Water Program

Effective January 1, 2017, the Louisiana Department of Health instituted the new Safe Drinking Water Fee, enacted by Act 605 of the 2016 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. This fee will result in an additional $1.00 cost per water bill. With the increase of the Safe Drinking Water fee, additional services will be provided to water systems. Beginning January 1, the program will reinstate the bacteriological sample collection program for all public water systems statewide. Additionally, the program will begin to collect and analyze the total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetics acids (HAA5) samples for water systems statewide.
