Public updates available through Nixle

The City of West Monroe and West Monroe Police Department have launched a public notification system using both text and email services.

The public notification system allows the public to stay connected with text and email announcements from both the City of West Monroe and the West Monroe Police Department. The announcements are powered through a service known as Nixle.

The public can sign up for text and/or email notifications from both the City of West Monroe and the West Monroe Police Department. To sign up for Community Notification texts through the City of West Monroe, text WESTMONROE to 888777.

To sign up for Public Safety Notification texts through the West Monroe Police Department, text WMPD to 888777.

The public can sign up for email notifications through the City’s web site at www.westmonroe.com by clicking on the “Get Alerts” tab on the right side of the page.

Christmas Tree Lighting Nov. 29

The City of West Monroe will host a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 2305 N. 7th Street. The public is invited to view the official lighting of the City Hall Christmas Tree as well as several live Christmas Trees decorated by local elementary schools. The event will include the singing of Christmas Carols and complimentary cookies and cocoa.

The lighting ceremony is free and open to the public.

Attendees are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys. Donated items will be distributed to needy families by the West Monroe Fire and Police Departments.

Ouachita Green Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. for the new Ouachita Green office located at Restoration Park in West Monroe. A tree planting ceremony will also take place in honor of Louisiana Arbor Day. The public is invited to attend.
