West Monroe Partners, a full-service business and technology consultancy, today announced that Consulting® magazine has named Tom Hulsebosch, managing director of the firm’s Energy & Utilities and Sustainability practices, one of its Top 25 Consultants for 2015. Hulsebosch earned the “Excellence in Energy” award in recognition of his practice development and leadership as well as his role in smart-grid innovation.
Since joining West Monroe Partners in 2008, Hulsebosch has developed the firm’s Energy & Utilities business from the ground up into a thriving practice with 45 consultants that work with clients across North America. Under his leadership, the practice consistently has been one of West Monroe’s fastest growing, and it has earned a leadership reputation and strong credentials in smart-grid strategy and execution. Hulsebosch has personally helped more than 30 utilities embark on their smart-grid journeys.
“It’s humbling just to be nominated let alone win this award. But to me this award—like consulting, in general—is really about the team we have put in the marketplace and the work we have done for our energy and utility clients,” said Hulsebosch. “I particularly enjoy the opportunity to work with some of the smartest, most committed, and the most talented people that I’ve encountered in my career—including both colleagues at West Monroe Partners and at our clients.”
A 25-year veteran of the utility, Internet service provider (ISP), and wireless telecommunications industries, Hulsebosch has translated his experience and vision into an array of smart-grid products and tools—including the Smart Grid Assessment Profile (S-GAP) for creating smart utility (electric, water, and gas) business cases, West Monroe SMARTTM regulatory reporting tool for federal grant winners, ConnecttheGridTM which helps utilities enroll and manage distributed generation resources like rooftop solar on their grids and WMProgram which automates key program and portfolio management processes required when running large business transformation programs.
Hulsebosch also serves on West Monroe’s Board of Managers and is the executive sponsor of its Sustainability team that helps West Monroe’s clients achieve triple bottom goals (social, environmental, and financial). Hulsebosch is a founding member of the Center for Smart Grid Applications Research and Technology (CSMART) at the Illinois Institute of Technology. CSMART was formed in partnership with ComEd, Silver Spring Networks and West Monroe Partners to research, test, and analyze the latest smart grid technology innovations in a real-world environment.
Each year, Consulting® magazine publishes a list of the Top 25 Consultants to recognize top professionals in the industry. Hulsebosch and the other recipients are featured in the May issue of Consulting® magazine and will receive their awards at a gala dinner at The Pierre Hotel in New York City on June 18.
